"Getting the Right Landing Page"
We’ve got our keyword list put together and we’re ready to get started with our landing pages. I’ve always liked to put my keyword in a header tag at the top of the page for two reasons.
- It lets the site visitor know he/she has landed on the page he/she was looking for.
- I do not think it matters which tag you use but I do feel that Google pays a little more attention to text that you’ve made stand out. I also feel that Google pays a little more attention to the first text they come across on the page.
After the header text I like to give my site visitor the option to skip everything else and make the purchase. I’d hate to make them stick around and listen to me go on and on if they are ready to go. After the offer I’ll start my text and continue with about 200 words of text and then once again give them the opportunity to make a purchase.
I want to give them as much information as I can and put some photos of the product in that information but my main goal is to get them onto the affiliate site and hopefully it is set up nice enough to close the deal. The landing page should be one click away from the affiliate’s site and that click should put them were they need to be to make the purchase. I do not want to send them to the home page on the affiliate’s site. Every click a site visitor makes is a click away from them leaving the site and you loosing the deal.
The landing page needs to be tested, retested and tested again. You can test every landing page on the site by setting up each one a little differently and watching the number of click through vs. traffic from each of those pages. But a landing page can always be tuned in a little better.
