How to Sell More Online
Your websites job is to tell a story so awesome it makes me want to build a bridge to your product.
Your story has to get my attention in less than a second and begin creating a desire in less than two. You’ve only got three seconds to make me believe that my life would be more complete, happier, better, productive and richer if I owned those earrings that you are selling.
Most websites spend a lot of time trying to figure out how to spread lots of messages across the homepage. What you want to do is create lots of landing pages. Drive traffic to those pages rather than the home page.
Experiments throughout history have proven time and again that the more choices mean fewer sales.
In 2000 there was an experiment done were a table was set up in a busy grocery store in California. The products on the table would change between 6 jars of jams and 24 jars of jam.
When there were 24 jars of jam on the table 60% of shoppers passing the table stopped and tasted the jam. When there were six jars of jam only 40% stopped and tasted the jam.
I didn’t matter rather there were 6 or 24 jars of jam on the table people only tasted one or two.
The big difference came at checkout;
- Out of all the shoppers that stopped at the table with 6 jars, 30% purchased.
- Out of all the shoppers that stopped at the table with 24 jars, only 3% purchased.
From this we know it’s better to have a product per page.
The more choices you give someone, the more confused they become and the less likely they are to make a purchase. This means your website needs to be simple, clean and focus on the product.
Hello. I would like to start an online business/company over the summer. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I have two ideas which I think could be really profitable. The problem is, I was quoted 40-50 thousand to make each site (except for the other business ideas). I just dont have that kind of money to even build one site. I will list the ideas below, and could you please tell me which idea you think is more profitable. How should I go about building the site? Should I hire someone on craigslist, rent a coder, etc.? Or should I try to build it my self? What should I use? I dont know programming or coding or web design.
1. My first idea is a website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. Users could also create a page where they could post info, and find new band members. I like this idea since the only competition is http://www.purevolume.com. PureVolume is making $300 a day! If I make a better site, why can’t i make that or more? I would sell ad space on the site. Accounts would be free, but if the site became big enough, I would create a pro membership that costs money in addition to the free account. If you think this idea could be profitable, how should I go about creating the site? I got quoted 40-50k to build by a web design firm. Should I use Kickapps which lets you create a social network site where user submit content (videos, MUSIC, videos etc.) for a small fee? Should I hire a developer on rent a coder?
2. My second idea is a website where users could post, list, sell, buy, auction, and trade websites. An ebay or amazon marketplace for websites. Users would post the site link with info and a snapshot and price, and other users would buy the site if they wanted to. I would take a small 4% commision from the sale. I would also sell ad space on the website. This website has some competition such as websitebroker.com, flippa.com, and sitepoint.com, but the potential is huge, and there is room for another player. If you think this site is profitable, how should I build it? Should I hire someone or build it myself. If build it myself, how should I build it?
3. My third idea is to sign up for resellerdynamics. You pay $1000 to them and they give you liscense to re sell there website building software on your own website and charge fees per month. they were reviewed in small business opportunity mag as a good opportunity and bbb says they are legit.
4. My last idea is to make a website with lots of articles, reviews, comparisons, etc. on cell phones. I would also sign up to be an affiliate with verizon, att, sprint, etc., and sell phones on my site. I know there are a lot of competition out there such as phonearena, phonedog, cnet, and mobiledia, but each site doest the same thing as the other site, and they all are making great money. By the way, is a website like this or a website in general considered a company? Could you be a CEO of the company that runs the website. Like if I call the site http://www.sprocketfish.com, could I make a company called Sprocketfish Inc. that runs the website and could I be CEO of Sprocketfish Inc.?
I really want to make one of these websites with as low startup as possible. I know I would have to market like crazy and do site matinence, but please help me. My parents think i should do a business like normal teens where you mow the lawn, babysit, etc, but I really want to do online business and hopefully make a good living. I think my sites ideas have potential. Which idea should I do? Which idea is more profitable? Even if you think they are not profitable, which would you choose if you had to? How should I build it?

Hello. I would like to make six figures a year. I have two website ideas.
1. A website where users can sign up and list, buy, sell, and auction their websites and domain names. Website flipping is a huge business, and many people want an already made and established website. People with established websites sometimes like to sell their site and make cash. It is a marketplace for websites. I would make money by charging a small commission to the seller and by having ads on the website.
Pros- cool idea, they have already made scripts for $50
Cons- competing with flippa and site point and websitebroker which are already established.
2. Consultants is a huge business, however, people with online businesses and websites also need help with how they should run their company. This would be a website based around a unique points system. The person who needs help with their website would buy 10 tokens for a small fee per token in order to post a question about their site. They could then post a snapshot along with the URL and questions they have about marketing, revenue, etc. Other users could then answer the questions and give feedback. Once the post closes, the ten points are distributed as follows. If there are more than 5 people who answered, only the top 5 chosen by the question poster gets 1 point each. If there are more than two but less than five, top two get two points. If there is only one poster and he has a good answer, he gets five points. The remaining five or six points are mine. If no one posts on your question within a month, you get your refund or can use points again later. You can also trade in points for cash and for prizes with people with many points. At first when the site is in beta, if there is a automatic posting thing used by scammers, users can flag them and I would manually delete the accounts. After beta, we would install a spam free security system that detects and prevents spam. I would make money by selling points and ads on the site.
Pros- great new idea, money from different sources
Cons- startup costs are huge since I would have to hire a web design firm.
3. Sell wholesale products from doba on ebay.
People have been telling me in order to get rich, you have to start a business. So those are my business ideas. However, this year, I am being promoted to partner at my management consulting firm and will be making seven figures each year as partner. I would then go onto a fortune 500 media company like viacom, time Warner, or news corp, apply for a senior management/executive position and make multi millions each year. Is it worth even starting a business. Maybe with my millions, I could afford to start number 2 if you think it is a good idea? However, I don’t need a business to make me rich. I’ve already become rich living off of my six figure salary from my firm and soon to be million dollar salary.

I applied for a newspaper job at USA Today and this is what they responded with
“We are USA TODAY and our independently contracted distributors deliver newspapers to coin operated racks and stores throughout the East Bay. Each route is already established and takes approximately 2 hours to deliver Monday through Friday. Papers are available for pick up between 12:00 a.m. and 1:00 a.m.
The average route should generate net income of approximately $200 a week. The more papers you sell, the more money you make. There is no limit to the amount of papers you can sell. A medium size vehicle is most desirable for route delivery.
Each day, you will deliver your papers and collect unsold copies from racks and stores and keep a record of how many you picked up at each location. I have a web development business and I was thinking about hiring a couple of salesmen to sell my services. Do you think it’s a good idea? What are the risks involved and how should I deal with them?
Their job will be to visit local businesses and offer my services to them. They will earn about 50% of the sale. For example, my main web design package costs $1099 USD and they can get a commission of about 500 for it. The reason I don’t want to to this by myself is because I’m NOT good at selling, I’m a shy type of person and also, I think I can earn much more if I have someone doing the selling for me while I focus at what I do best, web design. Please note that salesmen would NOT be required to work full time. They can do this job and also have another job.
Also, I think it’s quite easy to sell my services. I have done it without being good at sales. The main problem is that I’m too SHY to do it. I don’t feel comfortable doing the selling. That’s the main reason. Again, the service sells very easily and I think a good salesman can do better working with me than selling cars or other stuff.
Let me say this again: It’s very EASY to sell my web design packages. The only problem is that I am too shy to try. I do NOT feel comfortable visiting businesses and trying to sell them anything. Though I’ve done it many time with lots of success. Telemarketing DOES NOT work for this business at all, you have to GET IN FRONT of the person, not talk to her on the phone. Postcards and all that who someone suggested DOES NOT work either. The only thing that works is getting IN FRONT of the prospect, in person. Nothing, not even the net works as good as this strategy but I don’t like doing it. I need someone to do it for me. I need one of those super confident guys that are good at blah, blah, smile, smile, sell, sell….
I want to relate a warning for anyone seeing Christmas-time ads this holiday season. This is not to scare anyone, but to keep your $$$ and credit card number safe. I’ll take a star if you find what I say helpful.
I’ve been going on Craigslist (live near a major city) and noticed a lot of holiday ads going up. So I visit a few, just to see what they have. I notice the broken English. I notice the ‘kinda off’ web design. So a quick visit to http://www.whois.sc quickly reveals where they are registered/located. A bunch of them (no, an actual majority) are registered in China. One in Hong Kong. And the other in…are you ready…Nigeria. Now I know that some of you are familiar with Nigeria bank scams. Not to say that all of them are like that, but heck no will someone in a country 3,000+ miles from me get my c.c. number. Or PayPal. If it’s not in the U.S. your rights are severly restricted for charging back. Whatever Visa or MasterCard say, be careful to buy within the U.S.
On Amazon, I also see a bunch of recent sellers go up for items sometimes 1% but also sometimes 10-15% less than the retail stores. I’ve been in retail for about 20 years of my life. Stores are prohibited by manufacturers from offering a price X% lower than the competition. That’s why you’ll walk into Walmart & might see a box of CDs a few dimes less than Best Buy. Or maybe $1 less than Office Depot. Manufacturers do this to protect against massive price fluctuations in the market. Although they give Walmart more leeway (something that simply did not exist before they came along. Ames, Kmart, and every other store had things usually at the exact same price as everyone else. Except sales days. Which were also semi-regulated by the manufacturers) it’s only 1% or maybe a few more. I went to the trouble of going through Amazon’s system (which they monitor for fraud) to email one seller. He had the netbook I wanted for $25 or so less than Best Buy. That was a warning sign, but if he has an export license & does not have a brick & mortar store he does have more leeway. Although the manufacturer would cut him much less of a price break than Walmart. I emailed him, knowing how scammers work. He never acknowledged my request for: a phone number, an email address other than the Amazon forwarding system, or his physical address. He did act polite, and did respond to my questions within minutes to an hour of sending it. When I was going to give him the benefit of a doubt, I finally emailed him with my phone# (shouldn’t have done that…) and told him to give me his address in Cali. Well, he never called but acknowledged with an email dancing around my question. At that point, I said no way & didn’t want to risk it. If you ask someone a question when making an order, something legit like “where are you located?” and they don’t answer or answer vaguely (South L.A.) then that’s a huge warning sign.
Lastly, I noticed a large number of search engine results when I search for things. Like Columbia Sportswear will bring up sites such as http://www.columbia-sportswear-importers.com or http://www.sportswear-by-columbia.com. Those sites are possibly phishing sites or slapped together to sell a bunch of stuff you might not get. I went to one of them, and it had almost every conceivable item I’ve ever seen Columbia sell. The SSL certificate checked out (it was registered to a Hong Kong company), but of course the site looked like it was designed by a poorly paid HTML/graphic artist slave. LOL Seriously, if a site looks a bit sloppy I would highly recommend not taking the risk.
Right now, with the holiday season & the economy in bad shape, it’s enticing to save a bit of money on a purchase. Let me tell you, a stolen c.c. # could cost you thousands of dollars in time if not money. Do Not take the risk. It’s probably better to walk into a local store & see if you can haggle with the manager for $5 off that iPod or LCD TV than save $20 online.
Stay safe out there. I’m sure the police will have a lot of horror stories to tell the media after the holidays are over. Don’t end up a statistic. Be smart.

Oh i forgot last one, and this def is one to watch out for.
There are a bunch of videos being uploaded to YouTube with links to Amazon. The buyer often puts in the description “save 10% off purchase” or “save by going through this link”. Those are legit links to Amazon (so far I haven’t seen any to Ebay or other sellers) but here’s the thing. All those links are referral links. That person will get a kickback from Amazon should you purchase from them, if you don’t clear your cookies. I could imagine that if somene were to use certain websites, they could hijack your browser & perhaps redirect you to an Amazon-looking site.
If you find something on YouTube & see a link, just look at the description. Remember that, go over to Amazon yourself, and type that into search (remove the dashes, but put a space between words). That will help you find the same item there.
Not a scam, but a referral link that makes someone else money on your purchase.

I had a website built from scratch from a friend of mine who is a web designer / programmer, when it was first introduced to me I liked it and it seemed simple. After learning how it works and dealing with it for a few months I realized there was a lot of changes and additions that were needed, unfortunately he was not that experienced and could not fulfill my needs for the website.
I ended up having another friend of mine help me out who knows a lot more, I stayed with the original site that my previous friend created but a few changes and additions were added to it. I am much more happier with the outcome of the changes that have been made to the website, however there are still a few changes that need to be made but the programmer I am working with now is stating its to much work to do and I am better off looking into a “ready to use” site that is mainly complete and all I would need to do is add the products I am selling and I am ready to go.

Build another site from scratch exactly the way I want it
My first mistake was dealing with two people who can barely speak and understand english, so that barrier is there and at times what I am saying is not being understood 100%, that could only lead to things not being done the right way or nothing being done at all.
I need to get this fixed, either fix the one I have now or look into the other two options that I mentioned above. I do not need or want something specatacular, I am looking for something simple for now. As time goes on and money is made I will invest more money into the site and upgrade it but for now I just want my site open to the public so I can start making some money already. Its been almost a year since I had my site first created and I have not yet opened it to the public, its still Under Construction.

Also people can earn money when their jobs is design to use the computer. People also make a lot of money depending on how popular their websites become. Popular websites like, facebook or google make a lot of money. Blogs that talk about celebrities make a lot of money also. Some websites sell items that you can buy. Instead of shopping in a store, most of them have a website you can buy items off of. Such as clothing, camping items, or sports equipment websites. There are many ways you can make money from your computer.
Secondly, computers are helpful is that they let you communicate with your friends.You can talk to them in many ways, webcam, instant messaging, e-mail, or social websites. Web cams are helpful for you to be able to see a family member or a friend you miss or just want to talk to them. This is much easier than going to their house to see them. There are many programs out there you can download to do this, Skype or Ovoo, are two of the many programs people use to communicate with your friends. Instant messaging helps you talk to your friends or family members whenever you want. E-mail allows you to talk to more then one person at a time, you are able to talk to as many people as you want. Social websites is a very helpful way you can talk with your friends. Some websites that allow people to talk to their friends are, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. They all help you keep in touch with friends and you are able to talk to them whenever you want. Computers are a very helpful way to communicate with friends.
Lastly, computers are helpful in education. Computers gives students Information for your homework. If they need help on their math homework, the computer can help you on it. You can use the computer for school projects to get Information for what your looking for. If you need to know Information for your project in history, then you would your Google or Bing to get the Information you need. Some jobs require you to use a computer. If you need Information on animals for your job a computer is a great way to get that kind of Information. Some teachers even assign homework that needs to be done on the computer. Computers are a great way to get Information.
Computers are very helpful in the world. It can help you make money, you can communicate with your friends, and they can give you information for school or a job. In this world, a lot of jobs or projects depend on a computer which means, they are very much needed and helpful.

I’m looking for some advice or opinions on this matter. Perhaps I’m thinking too much or overreacting, but I have high expectations for myself as well as others around me, and I want to succeed more than anything. I have passions and sites on certain things, but I’m not quite sure where my specialties lie, or what I could qualify for the most… Here are my qualifications:
B.A. in History (4 yr degree from UT) – ok strike one, but I believe this degree offers quite some mobility.
3 years experience working in museum settings – 2 1/2 years in a children’s museum, and half a year (currently) being an intern at a history museum.
– It should be noted my interest in these jobs were not related to children education, but more to museum sciences
I have skills developed mainly through computer and online operations. This include developing my current workplaces museum website, updating its social media/blogging sites, managing its sales when buying and selling historical rarities, and using various web stores for our main inventory of merchandise. Also, while at my current museum (history), I have implemented a few exhibits on various topics, covering individuals, groups of people, and events and artifacts associated to this history (all this work includes doing the research, the writing, and the designing). I have more experience in this museum setting, but more knowledge and expertise in online operations.
I’ve come to a crossroads. There are a lot of options on my plate, and things I would prefer to do, but don’t know how to accomplish some goals. Namely;
-I am passionate about green technology and its benefits. I retrofitted my current museums lightning with brand new LED lights and tracks, helping to save an estimated $5,000 dollars a year by removing all incandescent bulbs. This was an awesome project that I took on from the beginning; I purchased the lights (not on my dime, though), installed the new lighting, ran the numbers of investment, and re-designed the museum for better preservation. I loved doing this and the benefits of overall green technology (although I have no education or work experience in this subject of green – tech)
- I could go on to get a master’s, but understand that I might not need it if I continue getting work experience in museums (really the only thing I would want to do associated with my degree in History), building upon what I’ve completed so far. Law school is another path a lot of History majors take, but I can’t see myself enjoying this profession despite its lucrative financial opportunities.
- An MBA or some sort of business related degree or specialization would be really appetizing for me. I would love to manage or run a business associated with my passions (History, green tech, museums) but have NO idea as to how to take an access to this option.

Accounts would be free, but if the site became big enough, I would create a pro membership that costs money in addition to the free account. By the way, is a website like this or a website in general considered a company? Could you be a CEO of the company that runs the website. I would then go onto a fortune 500 media company like viacom, time Warner, or news corp, apply for a senior management/executive position and make multi millions each year. Is it worth even starting a business. Maybe with my millions, I could afford to start number 2 if you think it is a good idea? However, I don’t need a business to make me rich. I’ve already become rich living off of my six figure salary from my firm and soon to be million dollar salary.

I want to relate a warning for anyone seeing Christmas-time ads this holiday season. This is not to scare anyone, but to keep your $$$ and credit card number safe. I’ll take a star if you find what I say helpful.
I’ve been going on Craigslist (live near a major city) and noticed a lot of holiday ads going up. So I visit a few, just to see what they have. I notice the broken English. I notice the ‘kinda off’ web design. So a quick visit to http://www.whois.sc quickly reveals where they are registered/located. A bunch of them (no, an actual majority) are registered in China. One in Hong Kong. And the other in…are you ready…Nigeria. Now I know that some of you are familiar with Nigeria bank scams. Not to say that all of them are like that, but heck no will someone in a country 3,000+ miles from me get my c.c. number. Or PayPal. If it’s not in the U.S. your rights are severly restricted for charging back. Whatever Visa or MasterCard say, be careful to buy within the U.S.
On Amazon, I also see a bunch of recent sellers go up for items sometimes 1% but also sometimes 10-15% less than the retail stores. I’ve been in retail for about 20 years of my life. Stores are prohibited by manufacturers from offering a price X% lower than the competition. That’s why you’ll walk into Walmart & might see a box of CDs a few dimes less than Best Buy. Or maybe $1 less than Office Depot. Manufacturers do this to protect against massive price fluctuations in the market. Although they give Walmart more leeway (something that simply did not exist before they came along. Ames, Kmart, and every other store had things usually at the exact same price as everyone else. Except sales days. Which were also semi-regulated by the manufacturers) it’s only 1% or maybe a few more. I went to the trouble of going through Amazon’s system (which they monitor for fraud) to email one seller. He had the netbook I wanted for $25 or so less than Best Buy. That was a warning sign, but if he has an export license & does not have a brick & mortar store he does have more leeway. Although the manufacturer would cut him much less of a price break than Walmart. I emailed him, knowing how scammers work. He never acknowledged my request for: a phone number, an email address other than the Amazon forwarding system, or his physical address. He did act polite, and did respond to my questions within minutes to an hour of sending it. When I was going to give him the benefit of a doubt, I finally emailed him with my phone# (shouldn’t have done that…) and told him to give me his address in Cali. Well, he never called but acknowledged with an email dancing around my question. At that point, I said no way & didn’t want to risk it. If you ask someone a question when making an order, something legit like “where are you located?” and they don’t answer or answer vaguely (South L.A.) then that’s a huge warning sign.
Lastly, I noticed a large number of search engine results when I search for things. Like Columbia Sportswear will bring up sites such as http://www.columbia-sportswear-importers.com or http://www.sportswear-by-columbia.com. Those sites are possibly phishing sites or slapped together to sell a bunch of stuff you might not get. I went to one of them, and it had almost every conceivable item I’ve ever seen Columbia sell. The SSL certificate checked out (it was registered to a Hong Kong company), but of course the site looked like it was designed by a poorly paid HTML/graphic artist slave. LOL Seriously, if a site looks a bit sloppy I would highly recommend not taking the risk.
Right now, with the holiday season & the economy in bad shape, it’s enticing to save a bit of money on a purchase. Let me tell you, a stolen c.c. # could cost you thousands of dollars in time if not money. Do Not take the risk. It’s probably better to walk into a local store & see if you can haggle with the manager for $5 off that iPod or LCD TV than save $20 online.
Stay safe out there. I’m sure the police will have a lot of horror stories to tell the media after the holidays are over. Don’t end up a statistic. Be smart.

Oh i forgot last one, and this def is one to watch out for.
There are a bunch of videos being uploaded to YouTube with links to Amazon. The buyer often puts in the description “save 10% off purchase” or “save by going through this link”. Those are legit links to Amazon (so far I haven’t seen any to Ebay or other sellers) but here’s the thing. All those links are referral links. That person will get a kickback from Amazon should you purchase from them, if you don’t clear your cookies. I could imagine that if somene were to use certain websites, they could hijack your browser & perhaps redirect you to an Amazon-looking site.
If you find something on YouTube & see a link, just look at the description. Remember that, go over to Amazon yourself, and type that into search (remove the dashes, but put a space between words). That will help you find the same item there.
Not a scam, but a referral link that makes someone else money on your purchase.

This would be a website based around a unique points system. The person who needs help with their website would buy 10 tokens for a small fee per token in order to post a question about their site. They could then post a snapshot along with the URL and questions they have about marketing, revenue, etc. Other users could then answer the questions and give feedback. Once the post closes, the ten points are distributed as follows. If there are more than 5 people who answered, only the top 5 chosen by the question poster gets 1 point each. If there are more than two but less than five, top two get two points. If there is only one poster and he has a good answer, he gets five points. The remaining five or six points are mine. If no one posts on your question within a month, you get your refund or can use points again later. You can also trade in points for cash and for prizes with people with many points. At first when the site is in beta, if there is a automatic posting thing used by scammers, users can flag them and I would manually delete the accounts. After beta, we would install a spam free security system that detects and prevents spam. I would make money by selling points and ads on the site.
Pros- great new idea, money from different sources
Cons- startup costs are huge since I would have to hire a web design firm.

People have been telling me in order to get rich, you have to start a business. So those are my business ideas. However, this year, I am being promoted to partner at my management consulting firm and will be making seven figures each year as partner. I would then go onto a fortune 500 media company like viacom, time Warner, or news corp, apply for a senior management/executive position and make multi millions each year. I have a web development business and I was thinking about hiring a couple of salesmen to sell my services. Do you think it’s a good idea? What are the risks involved and how should I deal with them?
Their job will be to visit local businesses and offer my services to them. They will earn about 50% of the sale. For example, my main web design package costs $1099 USD and they can get a commission of about 500 for it. The reason I don’t want to to this by myself is because I’m NOT good at selling, I’m a shy type of person and also, I think I can earn much more if I have someone doing the selling for me while I focus at what I do best, web design. Also, I think it’s quite easy to sell my services. I have done it without being good at sales. The main problem is that I’m too SHY to do it. I don’t feel comfortable doing the selling. That’s the main reason. Again, the service sells very easily and I think a good salesman can do better working with me than selling cars or other stuff.
Let me say this again: It’s very EASY to sell my web design packages. The only problem is that I am too shy to try. I do NOT feel comfortable visiting businesses and trying to sell them anything. Though I’ve done it many time with lots of success. Telemarketing DOES NOT work for this business at all, you have to GET IN FRONT of the person, not talk to her on the phone. Postcards and all that who someone suggested DOES NOT work either. The only thing that works is getting IN FRONT of the prospect, in person. Nothing, not even the net works as good as this strategy but I don’t like doing it. I need someone to do it for me. – It should be noted my interest in these jobs were not related to children education, but more to museum sciences
I have skills developed mainly through computer and online operations. This include developing my current workplaces museum website, updating its social media/blogging sites, managing its sales when buying and selling historical rarities, and using various web stores for our main inventory of merchandise. Also, while at my current museum (history), I have implemented a few exhibits on various topics, covering individuals, groups of people, and events and artifacts associated to this history (all this work includes doing the research, the writing, and the designing). I have more experience in this museum setting, but more knowledge and expertise in online operations.
I’ve come to a crossroads. There are a lot of options on my plate, and things I would prefer to do, but don’t know how to accomplish some goals. Namely;
-I am passionate about green technology and its benefits. I retrofitted my current museums lightning with brand new LED lights and tracks, helping to save an estimated $5,000 dollars a year by removing all incandescent bulbs. This was an awesome project that I took on from the beginning; I purchased the lights (not on my dime, though), installed the new lighting, ran the numbers of investment, and re-designed the museum for better preservation. I loved doing this and the benefits of overall green technology (although I have no education or work experience in this subject of green – tech)
- I could go on to get a master’s, but understand that I might not need it if I continue getting work experience in museums (really the only thing I would want to do associated with my degree in History), building upon what I’ve completed so far. Law school is another path a lot of History majors take, but I can’t see myself enjoying this profession despite its lucrative financial opportunities.
- An MBA or some sort of business related degree or specialization would be really appetizing for me. I would love to manage or run a business associated with my passions (History, green tech, museums) but have NO idea as to how to take an access to this option.
Anyway, I know I’ve left a lot of words on here, but I don’t have a lot of professional advice coming in from anyone I talk to about this. Any opinions or advice you guys give I would absorb very well.

There are many programs out there you can download to do this, Skype or Ovoo, are two of the many programs people use to communicate with your friends. Hello. I would like to start an online business/company over the summer. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I have two ideas which I think could be really profitable. The problem is, I was quoted 40-50 thousand to make each site (except for the other business ideas). I just dont have that kind of money to even build one site. I will list the ideas below, and could you please tell me which idea you think is more profitable. How should I go about building the site? Should I hire someone on craigslist, rent a coder, etc.? Or should I try to build it my self? What should I use? I dont know programming or coding or web design.
1. My first idea is a website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. Users could also create a page where they could post info, and find new band members. I like this idea since the only competition is http://www.purevolume.com. PureVolume is making $300 a day! If I make a better site, why can’t i make that or more? I would sell ad space on the site. Accounts would be free, but if the site became big enough, I would create a pro membership that costs money in addition to the free account. If you think this idea could be profitable, how should I go about creating the site? I got quoted 40-50k to build by a web design firm. By the way, is a website like this or a website in general considered a company? Could you be a CEO of the company that runs the website. Like if I call the site http://www.sprocketfish.com, could I make a company called Sprocketfish Inc. that runs the website and could I be CEO of Sprocketfish Inc.?

My parents think i should do a business like normal teens where you mow the lawn, babysit, etc, but I really want to do online business and hopefully make a good living. I have a web development business and I was thinking about hiring a couple of salesmen to sell my services. Do you think it’s a good idea? What are the risks involved and how should I deal with them?
Their job will be to visit local businesses and offer my services to them. They will earn about 50% of the sale. For example, my main web design package costs $1099 USD and they can get a commission of about 500 for it. The reason I don’t want to to this by myself is because I’m NOT good at selling, I’m a shy type of person and also, I think I can earn much more if I have someone doing the selling for me while I focus at what I do best, web design. Also, I think it’s quite easy to sell my services. I have done it without being good at sales. The main problem is that I’m too SHY to do it. I don’t feel comfortable doing the selling. That’s the main reason. Again, the service sells very easily and I think a good salesman can do better working with me than selling cars or other stuff.
Let me say this again: It’s very EASY to sell my web design packages. The only problem is that I am too shy to try. I do NOT feel comfortable visiting businesses and trying to sell them anything. Though I’ve done it many time with lots of success. Telemarketing DOES NOT work for this business at all, you have to GET IN FRONT of the person, not talk to her on the phone. Postcards and all that who someone suggested DOES NOT work either. The only thing that works is getting IN FRONT of the prospect, in person. Nothing, not even the net works as good as this strategy but I don’t like doing it. I need someone to do it for me. 1. A website where users can sign up and list, buy, sell, and auction their websites and domain names. Website flipping is a huge business, and many people want an already made and established website. People with established websites sometimes like to sell their site and make cash. It is a marketplace for websites. I would make money by charging a small commission to the seller and by having ads on the website.
Pros- cool idea, they have already made scripts for $50
Cons- competing with flippa and site point and websitebroker which are already established.
2. Consultants is a huge business, however, people with online businesses and websites also need help with how they should run their company. This would be a website based around a unique points system. The person who needs help with their website would buy 10 tokens for a small fee per token in order to post a question about their site. They could then post a snapshot along with the URL and questions they have about marketing, revenue, etc. Other users could then answer the questions and give feedback. Once the post closes, the ten points are distributed as follows. If there are more than 5 people who answered, only the top 5 chosen by the question poster gets 1 point each. If there are more than two but less than five, top two get two points. If there is only one poster and he has a good answer, he gets five points. The remaining five or six points are mine. If no one posts on your question within a month, you get your refund or can use points again later. You can also trade in points for cash and for prizes with people with many points. At first when the site is in beta, if there is a automatic posting thing used by scammers, users can flag them and I would manually delete the accounts. After beta, we would install a spam free security system that detects and prevents spam. I would make money by selling points and ads on the site.
Pros- great new idea, money from different sources
Cons- startup costs are huge since I would have to hire a web design firm.
3. Sell wholesale products from doba on ebay.
People have been telling me in order to get rich, you have to start a business. So those are my business ideas. However, this year, I am being promoted to partner at my management consulting firm and will be making seven figures each year as partner. I would then go onto a fortune 500 media company like viacom, time Warner, or news corp, apply for a senior management/executive position and make multi millions each year. Is it worth even starting a business. Maybe with my millions, I could afford to start number 2 if you think it is a good idea? However, I don’t need a business to make me rich. I’ve already become rich living off of my six figure salary from my firm and soon to be million dollar salary.
I can do a little of web design, computer maintenance, i can design graphics and want to sell computer systems , but i need to know how i can get to those who need these things. How can i find them and keep many more coming to me? I’ll appreciate your help…
Hello. I would like to start an online business/company over the summer. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I have two ideas which I think could be really profitable. The problem is, I was quoted 40-50 thousand to make each site (except for the other business ideas). I just dont have that kind of money to even build one site. I will list the ideas below, and could you please tell me which idea you think is more profitable. How should I go about building the site? Should I hire someone on craigslist, rent a coder, etc.? Or should I try to build it my self? What should I use? I dont know programming or coding or web design.
1. My first idea is a website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. Users could also create a page where they could post info, and find new band members. I like this idea since the only competition is http://www.purevolume.com. PureVolume is making $300 a day! If I make a better site, why can’t i make that or more? I would sell ad space on the site. Accounts would be free, but if the site became big enough, I would create a pro membership that costs money in addition to the free account. If you think this idea could be profitable, how should I go about creating the site? I got quoted 40-50k to build by a web design firm. Should I use Kickapps which lets you create a social network site where user submit content (videos, MUSIC, videos etc.) for a small fee? Should I hire a developer on rent a coder?

Users would post the site link with info and a snapshot and price, and other users would buy the site if they wanted to. I would take a small 4% commision from the sale. If you think this site is profitable, how should I build it? Should I hire someone or build it myself. If build it myself, how should I build it?
3. My third idea is to sign up for resellerdynamics. You pay $1000 to them and they give you liscense to re sell there website building software on your own website and charge fees per month. they were reviewed in small business opportunity mag as a good opportunity and bbb says they are legit.
4. My last idea is to make a website with lots of articles, reviews, comparisons, etc. on cell phones. I would also sign up to be an affiliate with verizon, att, sprint, etc., and sell phones on my site. I know there are a lot of competition out there such as phonearena, phonedog, cnet, and mobiledia, but each site doest the same thing as the other site, and they all are making great money. By the way, is a website like this or a website in general considered a company? Could you be a CEO of the company that runs the website. Like if I call the site http://www.sprocketfish.com, could I make a company called Sprocketfish Inc. that runs the website and could I be CEO of Sprocketfish Inc.?

Secondly, computers are helpful is that they let you communicate with your friends.You can talk to them in many ways, webcam, instant messaging, e-mail, or social websites. Web cams are helpful for you to be able to see a family member or a friend you miss or just want to talk to them. This is much easier than going to their house to see them. There are many programs out there you can download to do this, Skype or Ovoo, are two of the many programs people use to communicate with your friends. Instant messaging helps you talk to your friends or family members whenever you want. E-mail allows you to talk to more then one person at a time, you are able to talk to as many people as you want. Social websites is a very helpful way you can talk with your friends. Some websites that allow people to talk to their friends are, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. They all help you keep in touch with friends and you are able to talk to them whenever you want. Computers are a very helpful way to communicate with friends.
Lastly, computers are helpful in education. Computers gives students Information for your homework. If they need help on their math homework, the computer can help you on it. You can use the computer for school projects to get Information for what your looking for. If you need to know Information for your project in history, then you would your Google or Bing to get the Information you need. Some jobs require you to use a computer. If you need Information on animals for your job a computer is a great way to get that kind of Information. Some teachers even assign homework that needs to be done on the computer. Computers are a great way to get Information.

I want to relate a warning for anyone seeing Christmas-time ads this holiday season. This is not to scare anyone, but to keep your $$$ and credit card number safe. I’ll take a star if you find what I say helpful.
I’ve been going on Craigslist (live near a major city) and noticed a lot of holiday ads going up. So I visit a few, just to see what they have. I notice the broken English. I notice the ‘kinda off’ web design. So a quick visit to http://www.whois.sc quickly reveals where they are registered/located. A bunch of them (no, an actual majority) are registered in China. One in Hong Kong. And the other in…are you ready…Nigeria. Now I know that some of you are familiar with Nigeria bank scams. Not to say that all of them are like that, but heck no will someone in a country 3,000+ miles from me get my c.c. number. Or PayPal. If it’s not in the U.S. your rights are severly restricted for charging back. Whatever Visa or MasterCard say, be careful to buy within the U.S.
On Amazon, I also see a bunch of recent sellers go up for items sometimes 1% but also sometimes 10-15% less than the retail stores. I’ve been in retail for about 20 years of my life. Stores are prohibited by manufacturers from offering a price X% lower than the competition. That’s why you’ll walk into Walmart & might see a box of CDs a few dimes less than Best Buy. Or maybe $1 less than Office Depot. Manufacturers do this to protect against massive price fluctuations in the market. Although they give Walmart more leeway (something that simply did not exist before they came along. Ames, Kmart, and every other store had things usually at the exact same price as everyone else. Except sales days. Which were also semi-regulated by the manufacturers) it’s only 1% or maybe a few more. I went to the trouble of going through Amazon’s system (which they monitor for fraud) to email one seller. He had the netbook I wanted for $25 or so less than Best Buy. That was a warning sign, but if he has an export license & does not have a brick & mortar store he does have more leeway. Although the manufacturer would cut him much less of a price break than Walmart. I emailed him, knowing how scammers work. He never acknowledged my request for: a phone number, an email address other than the Amazon forwarding system, or his physical address. He did act polite, and did respond to my questions within minutes to an hour of sending it. When I was going to give him the benefit of a doubt, I finally emailed him with my phone# (shouldn’t have done that…) and told him to give me his address in Cali. Well, he never called but acknowledged with an email dancing around my question. At that point, I said no way & didn’t want to risk it. If you ask someone a question when making an order, something legit like “where are you located?” and they don’t answer or answer vaguely (South L.A.) then that’s a huge warning sign.
Lastly, I noticed a large number of search engine results when I search for things. Like Columbia Sportswear will bring up sites such as http://www.columbia-sportswear-importers.com or http://www.sportswear-by-columbia.com. Those sites are possibly phishing sites or slapped together to sell a bunch of stuff you might not get. I went to one of them, and it had almost every conceivable item I’ve ever seen Columbia sell. The SSL certificate checked out (it was registered to a Hong Kong company), but of course the site looked like it was designed by a poorly paid HTML/graphic artist slave. LOL Seriously, if a site looks a bit sloppy I would highly recommend not taking the risk.
Right now, with the holiday season & the economy in bad shape, it’s enticing to save a bit of money on a purchase. Let me tell you, a stolen c.c. # could cost you thousands of dollars in time if not money. Do Not take the risk. It’s probably better to walk into a local store & see if you can haggle with the manager for $5 off that iPod or LCD TV than save $20 online.
Stay safe out there. I’m sure the police will have a lot of horror stories to tell the media after the holidays are over. Don’t end up a statistic. Be smart.

Oh i forgot last one, and this def is one to watch out for.
There are a bunch of videos being uploaded to YouTube with links to Amazon. The buyer often puts in the description “save 10% off purchase” or “save by going through this link”. Those are legit links to Amazon (so far I haven’t seen any to Ebay or other sellers) but here’s the thing. All those links are referral links. That person will get a kickback from Amazon should you purchase from them, if you don’t clear your cookies. I could imagine that if somene were to use certain websites, they could hijack your browser & perhaps redirect you to an Amazon-looking site.
If you find something on YouTube & see a link, just look at the description. Remember that, go over to Amazon yourself, and type that into search (remove the dashes, but put a space between words). That will help you find the same item there.
Not a scam, but a referral link that makes someone else money on your purchase.

Hello. I would like to start an online business/company over the summer. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I have two ideas which I think could be really profitable. The problem is, I was quoted 40-50 thousand to make each site (except for the other business ideas). I just dont have that kind of money to even build one site. I will list the ideas below, and could you please tell me which idea you think is more profitable. How should I go about building the site? Should I hire someone on craigslist, rent a coder, etc.? Or should I try to build it my self? What should I use? I dont know programming or coding or web design.
1. My first idea is a website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. Users could also create a page where they could post info, and find new band members. I like this idea since the only competition is http://www.purevolume.com. PureVolume is making $300 a day! If I make a better site, why can’t i make that or more? I would sell ad space on the site. Accounts would be free, but if the site became big enough, I would create a pro membership that costs money in addition to the free account. If you think this idea could be profitable, how should I go about creating the site? I got quoted 40-50k to build by a web design firm. Should I use Kickapps which lets you create a social network site where user submit content (videos, MUSIC, videos etc.) for a small fee? Should I hire a developer on rent a coder?
2. My second idea is a website where users could post, list, sell, buy, auction, and trade websites. An ebay or amazon marketplace for websites. Users would post the site link with info and a snapshot and price, and other users would buy the site if they wanted to. I would take a small 4% commision from the sale. I would also sell ad space on the website. This website has some competition such as websitebroker.com, flippa.com, and sitepoint.com, but the potential is huge, and there is room for another player. If you think this site is profitable, how should I build it? Should I hire someone or build it myself. If build it myself, how should I build it?
3. My third idea is to sign up for resellerdynamics. You pay $1000 to them and they give you liscense to re sell there website building software on your own website and charge fees per month. they were reviewed in small business opportunity mag as a good opportunity and bbb says they are legit.
4. My last idea is to make a website with lots of articles, reviews, comparisons, etc. on cell phones. I would also sign up to be an affiliate with verizon, att, sprint, etc., and sell phones on my site. I know there are a lot of competition out there such as phonearena, phonedog, cnet, and mobiledia, but each site doest the same thing as the other site, and they all are making great money. By the way, is a website like this or a website in general considered a company? Could you be a CEO of the company that runs the website. Like if I call the site http://www.sprocketfish.com, could I make a company called Sprocketfish Inc. that runs the website and could I be CEO of Sprocketfish Inc.?

I’m looking for some advice or opinions on this matter. Perhaps I’m thinking too much or overreacting, but I have high expectations for myself as well as others around me, and I want to succeed more than anything. I have passions and sites on certain things, but I’m not quite sure where my specialties lie, or what I could qualify for the most… Here are my qualifications:
B.A. in History (4 yr degree from UT) – ok strike one, but I believe this degree offers quite some mobility.
3 years experience working in museum settings – 2 1/2 years in a children’s museum, and half a year (currently) being an intern at a history museum.
– It should be noted my interest in these jobs were not related to children education, but more to museum sciences
I have skills developed mainly through computer and online operations. This include developing my current workplaces museum website, updating its social media/blogging sites, managing its sales when buying and selling historical rarities, and using various web stores for our main inventory of merchandise. Also, while at my current museum (history), I have implemented a few exhibits on various topics, covering individuals, groups of people, and events and artifacts associated to this history (all this work includes doing the research, the writing, and the designing). I have more experience in this museum setting, but more knowledge and expertise in online operations.
I’ve come to a crossroads. There are a lot of options on my plate, and things I would prefer to do, but don’t know how to accomplish some goals. Namely;
-I am passionate about green technology and its benefits. I retrofitted my current museums lightning with brand new LED lights and tracks, helping to save an estimated $5,000 dollars a year by removing all incandescent bulbs. This was an awesome project that I took on from the beginning; I purchased the lights (not on my dime, though), installed the new lighting, ran the numbers of investment, and re-designed the museum for better preservation. I loved doing this and the benefits of overall green technology (although I have no education or work experience in this subject of green – tech)
- I could go on to get a master’s, but understand that I might not need it if I continue getting work experience in museums (really the only thing I would want to do associated with my degree in History), building upon what I’ve completed so far. Law school is another path a lot of History majors take, but I can’t see myself enjoying this profession despite its lucrative financial opportunities.
- An MBA or some sort of business related degree or specialization would be really appetizing for me. I would love to manage or run a business associated with my passions (History, green tech, museums) but have NO idea as to how to take an access to this option.
Anyway, I know I’ve left a lot of words on here, but I don’t have a lot of professional advice coming in from anyone I talk to about this. Any opinions or advice you guys give I would absorb very well.

Popular websites like, facebook or google make a lot of money. Blogs that talk about celebrities make a lot of money also. Some websites sell items that you can buy. Instead of shopping in a store, most of them have a website you can buy items off of. Such as clothing, camping items, or sports equipment websites. There are many ways you can make money from your computer.
Secondly, computers are helpful is that they let you communicate with your friends.You can talk to them in many ways, webcam, instant messaging, e-mail, or social websites. Web cams are helpful for you to be able to see a family member or a friend you miss or just want to talk to them. This is much easier than going to their house to see them. There are many programs out there you can download to do this, Skype or Ovoo, are two of the many programs people use to communicate with your friends. Instant messaging helps you talk to your friends or family members whenever you want. E-mail allows you to talk to more then one person at a time, you are able to talk to as many people as you want. Social websites is a very helpful way you can talk with your friends. Some websites that allow people to talk to their friends are, Facebook, Myspace, and Twitter. They all help you keep in touch with friends and you are able to talk to them whenever you want. Computers are a very helpful way to communicate with friends.
Lastly, computers are helpful in education. Computers gives students Information for your homework. If they need help on their math homework, the computer can help you on it. You can use the computer for school projects to get Information for what your looking for. If you need to know Information for your project in history, then you would your Google or Bing to get the Information you need. Some jobs require you to use a computer. If you need Information on animals for your job a computer is a great way to get that kind of Information. Some teachers even assign homework that needs to be done on the computer. I have always had trucks, 4×4, fast, and diesel powered trucks, due to the rural nature of my hometown in SC. My eclipse is the first car that I have had. I am not one of those retards that ask about turbos when they haven’t even seen someone else’s set up to compare with what they want. That being said I have mechanical experience with turbos and engines in trucks but never a 4 cylinder street car. So please don’t think I’m stupid I have done some research but I am asking this so that I can get all my answers for the whole car, (exterior, interior, engine and sound system) on the same web-page. Also if you have an eclipse that you love as much as mine I would love to hear/see your set ups, I am definitely open minded for different routes in total car builds.
1. What is the easiest, safest, and best looking option for me to turbo charge my eclipse. I know it is more practical to sell and get a GSX or GST but I have spent too much getting it to drive good. So should I;
a- Get the 4g63t conversion? how much would that run?
b- Use a GST set up? Will the turbo fit to my 420a engine? if so what parts would I need for the conversion?
c- Go eBay in this bitch? Get a t3/t4 turbo kit and keep a low boost setting to keep from blowing the engine and cylinders? what extra parts would I need other than those included in the kit?
Also, I definitely want to convert the tail lights and rear body kit to the supra. I know I need the tail lights and body kit but is there anything else I’m not thinking of before I can mold in the new lights?
Lastly, my goal with my car is to have it show quality and in a magazine by three years from this coming march. Hello. I would like to start an online business/company over the summer. My goal is to eventually make six or more figures a year. I have two ideas which I think could be really profitable. The problem is, I was quoted 40-50 thousand to make each site (except for the other business ideas). I just dont have that kind of money to even build one site. I will list the ideas below, and could you please tell me which idea you think is more profitable. How should I go about building the site? Should I hire someone on craigslist, rent a coder, etc.? Or should I try to build it my self? What should I use? I dont know programming or coding or web design.
1. My first idea is a website where users can submit original songs and other users can listen, rate, comment, share, and chat with other users. Users could also create a page where they could post info, and find new band members. I like this idea since the only competition is http://www.purevolume.com. PureVolume is making $300 a day! If I make a better site, why can’t i make that or more? I would sell ad space on the site. Accounts would be free, but if the site became big enough, I would create a pro membership that costs money in addition to the free account. If you think this idea could be profitable, how should I go about creating the site? I got quoted 40-50k to build by a web design firm. Should I use Kickapps which lets you create a social network site where user submit content (videos, MUSIC, videos etc.) for a small fee? Should I hire a developer on rent a coder?

I would also sign up to be an affiliate with verizon, att, sprint, etc., and sell phones on my site. I know there are a lot of competition out there such as phonearena, phonedog, cnet, and mobiledia, but each site doest the same thing as the other site, and they all are making great money. By the way, is a website like this or a website in general considered a company? Could you be a CEO of the company that runs the website. Like if I call the site http://www.sprocketfish.com, could I make a company called Sprocketfish Inc. that runs the website and could I be CEO of Sprocketfish Inc.?

I am a Junior in college for a degree in Computer Science. I have been approached by a friend to create a custom website (He is ready and willing to pay for the site). I have some web design experience, and am able to create a website, however I have never done one for someone else as a job. So basically I was wondering how much I should charge? Basically I will be doing some flash button/banners, a couple graphic design things, and a completed website with about four pages and a database.
Any Idea how much I should charge, or how long a project like this should take?

I also came across LM Designing which has some really nice sites as well. I’m looking to own the site and want to be able to choose my own hosting platform. Sites like AgentImage, who makes really nice realtor sites, have a very bad reputation and in addition to being very expensive, they still don’t even give you all rights to your site, so if you didn’t want them to host your site, you’d be in breach of contract and they can shut down your site.
