Take Charge of Your Wine Design!

Speaking as a web designer, I can tell you it is impossible to design a custom website without the customers input. This is your business! You understand your customers better than the website designer does. You understand your product better than the website designer does. And you understand your business better than the website designer does.

Designing a website is a joint adventure. It takes both the input from the web designer and the client. If the web designer is smart he can really make it easy on both the client and himself.

What I mean is if you use WordPress to manage the content, logos, images, fonts, and layout on the pages your client will then be able to do a lot of the little things him or herself. Their happy because they no longer have to call you for every little change and your happy because your able to design and set the site up a lot quicker.

    Ok, I have a few questions, actually…

Background: I am flying from Pittsburgh to Chicago with American Airlines. Then I will be flying from Chicago to Frankfurt with Air India. I booked both flights at the same time through a travel site, and so are part of the same itinerary. FYI, I’ve looked at the websites of each airline I am using, but I don’t know if one takes precedent over the other; I’m just checking to see if anyone can make what the airlines/government say less confusing.

American Airlines says there is no charge for two checked bags for international flights. Will this apply to me, even though my trip with AA will be domestic? Or will I have to pay the $15/$25 fees for two bags?

I wanted to take a carry-on bag and as a personal item have a pillow with a blanket inside, wrapped around the pillow. Will this personal item be allowed on both airlines? Air India’s website mentioned nothing about personal items (that I could find anyway).

At what point will I go through customs on my trip? Do they charge for you to go through customs? I found a chart saying how much % they will charge for specific items, but it did not say if this applied to everyone or just to businesses bringing in goods to be sold… (I just don’t want to be taxed for taking my digital camera and laptop, lol.)

    Thank you for your help!

    Hi,

I am currently working as a web developer. Basically, I implement websites with open source packages, such as Joomla, Magento, etc… This can be stressful as I have to literally change every aspect of most templates to fit the clients’ needs and also I have to add a lot of custom functionality. However, I cannot say that I am a PHP expert. Although I know how to do many stuff with PHP. When it comes to HTML and CSS I know them pretty well. However, I have become pretty stressed at this job and I would like to try out another job, mainly because when it comes to web I am in charge of everything where I work.

My question is, that an opportunity has arisen for a Web Designer job. Basically, at this job I will only need to create the designs and then the developers will take care of the implementation of the website. When you say ‘just the design’, this means the PSD and or/ Flash banners and so on? Or would you need to also create the HTML/CSS layout?

I know that when starting from scratch, a Web Designer’s job is easier than a Web Developer’s. However, since I used Joomla and other packages to create websites, I never really implemented a huge website from scratch. I know my way around Photoshop. I will now need to create designs from scratch. Do you think that I will do all right at this job or could I find it hard? Because I have a feeling that the pay will be better for a more relaxing job and I would like to try it out. However, I become very anxious when changing a job because of the fear of making a bad decision of changing it (this is the first time that I am considering to change the job after 1.5 years).

Your input would be greatly appreciated.

    Many thanks in advance.

This job doesn’t have any server side or client side coding. It just needs someone to create the designs. The implementation will be done by the developers.

I am a recent college graduate with my Bachelor’s in Web Development and I have been asked by some friends and family to help build some websites to help with my experience. I took on a project of redoing the one for our church since it hasn’t been updated in almost 3-4 years. I am building the entire site from scratch using notepad because Dreamweaver is glitching out and not opening. Since I am using notepad it will take longer.

It will be the basic site
    Custom HTML, CSS
    Photoshop (Backgrounds & Banner)
    Some Flash
    Video
Guest Book – Basically a comment box that posts to the page that I will be moderating
Keep the content up to date.

Now onto my question. How should I charge? Should I charge per page or per hour? And how would charge to keep the site’s content updated or big changes that are asked to be made when the site is already live and project is finished?

I’m leaning more towards hourly pay of $20 because I believe that my quality is truly better than the one that our church is currently using.

Your thoughts/tips/opinions? I need to get a general idea of what my contract will have on it.

    Thanks.

I told my boss I would design him a web page because I wanted to learn web design and he wanted a web page. I work 4 hrs a day in exchange for a place to stay, but this work is generally gardening outside. Somehow there was a miscommunication – he can’t pay me for extra hours I spend on the web page and he needs me to work outside most of the time. Leaving me about 1 hr a day to work on his website.

I am kind of a newbie at the whole web design game – I am learning as I go. But I have a working knowledge of basic programing & coding and, in my opinion, a good eye for web design. So it might take me a while to read through the tutorials on html or css, but what I produce is high quality.

So at first, I said I wanted to do the design thinking it would count as my work hours. I put in 6 or so hours a day to compensate for my inexperience. But then he tells me I have to work mostly outside and since he saw how hard a time I was having maybe I could count 1 hr of work on the site per day. I spend like 5.

So anyways, I show him my first design that was heavily based on a template thinking we could be done with it. But then he rips me a new one, “ah the navigation should be over here” “oh this color is ugly” “your website caused my computer to completely crash” (I don’t believe that one.)

So taking all this criticism back to my workstation, I scrapped everything and started from scratch (when I still thought this counted as work! ha, just kidding!). I spent about 7-10 hours on the new design (once again, a lot of this is learning time too!). I show it to him, and he pretty much tells me to go back to the other one that he had had so many problems with.

So now I am ready to just quit! Or give him the one I have right now. Gah, why should I have to make it your way if I am doing it for free?

Now that the full situation is explained I want some input from people who design small business web pages like this (it’s about 7-8 pages – whenever he makes up his damn mind) and I’m going to integrate a WordPress blog into the design when I finalize it.

So if you were given this project and had to redo it several times because you have “bad” taste, how much would you charge your client?

I just want an accurate answer so I can know weather it’s worth it to ask for money, or quit doing it, or what?! Opinions welcome too, please and thank you :)

I am a secretary for a home security business (fire/smoke alarms, burglar alarms, security systems, etc). It is a small business, operated from the owner’s home. They have many clients and aren’t in any danger of closing from lack of funds, but the business has gotten by purely through word of mouth (client testimonials) and small phone book and/or newspaper ads. I know that a website would greatly help the business and bring in more clientele, more accounts, and broaden the possibilities for the future. I know my boss would love the idea of a website and I am HTML literate and can build websites sufficiently enough in programs like Dreamweaver for them to be professional and easily navigable.

My problem, is that I don’t know how much to charge him for the website maintenance, building, etc. I am not a web designer by trade, it has been purely a hobby of mine to fiddle with HTML. I’m not looking to charge him as if I were a professional web designer, but I don’t want to do all of this additional work free of charge — you know it takes time to design, build, and upkeep a website. I plan on being with this job for a long while and even if I left for another job, he would probably want me to maintain the website anyway. [He is a friend of the family and is not particularly computer savvy and doesn't know where to start looking for a dependable other to maintain the website].. Should I charge him a flat fee for the website creation and then a monthly fee? Or should I just get him to increase my salary a bit and make it a part of my job description so that it is a normal duty? Web designers and small business owners, please, your experience here would be much appreciated! I want your opinion, what should I do? Thank you!!

I’m so disappointed to finally be a victim of Internet fraud. This website charged my credit card $74.99 and never sent the fake product I ordered. (I have since learned that they are fake products.) When I repeatedly emailed them asking where my shoes were, they didn’t answer. Their only contact information is via email by submitting it on their site which simply responds with a failure to deliver notice. No names, addresses, phone numbers . . . that should have been my first clue that they are a fraud. They still update their site daily with products and have Google checkout to take your money so it looks all legitimate. Don’t be a victim, stay away from their site. I have reported them to 3 different Internet fraud sites.

Does anyone know how to find out who is running a website?

Has anyone else been a victim of this scam?

Does anyone have suggestions for how to catch these guys?
I called the number you gave me in FL and the girl hung up on me. She says they are a web hosting business and not affiliated. I told her she is affiliated because they are hosting a fraudulent site and she hung up on me. Now what?
It’s really not about the $, it’s about someone getting away with ripping people off. I phoned the people who host the site on their private server and was hung up on. Apparently, people like this can get away with fraud because of jurisdiction. The FBI has the only federal jurisdiction for fraud across states and they don’t have time for such small monetary crimes. The authorities said to start a blog and keep a list of victims to submit to the FBI.

I posted earlier on Answers for ideas for ways to make money online, and people suggested starting a website and making money from the advertisements. I actually have an idea for a type of blogging site, maybe could be comparable to FML, but I have no idea even where to start, and as to whether or not an uneducated person when it comes to computer programming could start something like that and be successful at it. I know it will take a lot of thought, time, and effort. How exactly would charging to advertise on my site even work? Who would I register my site with?

Any insight is greatly appreciated, thanks and have a great day

Shihua Prosperity Commercial Consulting limited offers a variety of services to help our clients develop their optimum online presence for Chinese market. Any company intending to operate in the region requires Chinese language website, while for certain industries a purely web-based presence may be the most cost-effective method of market entry. The process of website localisation to produce a Chinese version draws on the varied capabilities of our translators, copywriters, web designers and developers to build a powerful online presence. Experience of our teams in China enables us to build powerful e-commerce capabilities for our clients and remain within the relatively stringent regulations currently in place for foreign enterprises. Our in-depth understanding and informed predictions of developments in China enable us to optimize the strategies we develop to take advantage immediately of daily changes to the internet climate in China.

    Ripoff Report Verified Safe

Clickbank lures you in with a FALSE link claiming to be the official limewire website and offer you the limewire pro service. They take your credit card information and charge you and you get the download (which is free on the limewire website anyway) but you dont get the service. I contacted limewire about the situation and they said that they do not allow any other companies to sell their Limewire PRO software.

I called my credit card company and disputed the charges immediately. This company is a fraud. I have read many other reports of fraudulant transactions under many different schemes such as I(((REDACTED FOR SECURITY PURPOSES))),etc.

    Protect Yourself from Fraudulent Emails

At PayPal, protecting your account’s security is our top priority. Recently, PayPal members have reported suspicious-looking emails and fake websites. These emails are not from PayPal and responding to them may put your account at risk. Please protect your PayPal account by paying close attention to the emails you receive and the websites you visit.

Please use the following tips to stay safe with PayPal:

    * Safe Log In: To log in to your PayPal account or access the PayPal website, open a new web browser (e.g., Internet Explorer or Netscape) and type in the following: https://www.
    * Greeting: Emails from PayPal will address you by your first and last name or the business name associated with your PayPal account. Fraudulent emails often include the salutation “Dear PayPal User” or “Dear PayPal Member”.
    * Email Attachments: PayPal emails will never ask you to download an attachment or a software program. Attachments contained in fraudulent emails often contain viruses that may harm your computer or compromise your PayPal account.
    * Request for Personal Information: If we require information from you, we will notify you in an email and request that you enter the information only after you have safely and securely logged in to your PayPal account.

Often, fraudulent emails will request details such as your full name, account password, credit card number, bank account, PIN number, Social Security Number, or mother’s maiden name.

If you think that you have received a fraudulent email (or fake website), please forward the email (or URL address) to spoof@paypal.com and then delete the email from your mailbox. Never click any links or attachments in a suspicious email.

I an a professional musician but have always taken photos for fun. Not long ago I saw some not so impressive landscape photos purchased by someone I knew. I went on this rather talentless photographer’s website to see how much she sells them for and I couldn’t believe how mediocre most of her photos are, I mean you would think with all the professional gears these people use, at least the photos shouldn’t look like they were taken by some tourists…but she actually charges money for them.
That made me think maybe I should put out my photos and see if I get any buyers….not to sound too much of a sour grape…but since high school I have had many people compliment on the photos I took over the years.
how about copy rights? would any of these sites take my photos and use as their own?

Thank you!!

(I live in Virginia. This is according to Virginia law).

My dad says that if a cop searches your car & finds anything at all, whether it be weed, coke, whatever, that if you claim you didn’t know it was there, you can’t get in trouble. All the cop will do is confiscate it (as long as it wasn’t in plain view).

For example, lets say you have a gram of weed in your glove box, cop finds it, & you say you had no idea it was there. All the cop will do is take it from you & let you go on your merry way. He won’t give you any possession charges.

    Is this true?

I feel like it isn’t. Then everyone would just say they didn’t know it was there. I’ve also seen them say they didn’t know the drugs were in their car on Jail, Cops, & other TV shows. My dad’s counter to that argument was that those are just TV shows & that’s not how things actually go down in real life. He also said that they usually have stinger (or is it sting?) operations so they already knew that person would have drugs on them, & saw that person buy the drugs beforehand. But if it wasn’t a sting operation, the cops just happened on the weed by chance, then they can’t do anything but take it, as long as you deny that it’s yours & claim you had no idea it was there.

My dad is big on the law & is always researching it. He got this particular information from our state’s website, the link is here –>

    http://leg1.state.va.us/cgi-bin/legp504.exe?000+cod+18.2-250.1

    2nd paragraph.

Can anyone clear this up for me?
    Thank you!
Can you guys backup what you are saying at all, with websites or any sort of proof? I’m just trying to get my facts straight.
    Thanks!

I have recently decided that I would like to become either a web designer or web developer…I spend quite a bit of time online and really would like to learn how to build my own website. I am thinking of taking a few courses at the Art institute of Washington so I can get a diploma in web design. I suppose I just wanted to ask if it would be worth while for me to do so? I see many job listing around the area for web designers so I wouldn’t have a problem finding work if I have a good enough portfolio but is web design a good career path to choose?

I’d like to hire an independent contractor off odesk.com to build a basic ecommerce website, and might have my credit card processing through charge.com. The website doesn’t need to be anything fancy, but must be functional and secure and look professional, probably incorporating flash. About how many hours should I figure this will take, or about how much will this cost? What skills should I be looking for in my odesk contractor, and is a range of $15-$25 per hour about right, for the right person? Thanks in advance for your response.

  66. Gloria Hester says:

    Thanks!

Harrassament by the Branch Manager/ Employee or 420 cheaters

    respective sir,
ICICI Bank doesn’t understand that ‘People’ is one of the best treasures of the success of a company. Once you make an entry, you will be astonished by an amazing fact that ICICI Bank doesn’t expect its employees to serve its customers. The problems and genuine concerns of customers are simply outsourced. One should not wonder that ICICI Bank gets the largest no. of complaints against it. Check Consumerforum website of the Government of India about the no. of complaints against this bank. Come here. employs false commitment and lack of knowledge about product shows a unprofessional attitude. they convince me to by gold from them in a higher rate than market by saying we have jewellery shop owners who will purchase in a good rate we will organise.and also take loan from us by depositing those gold for which your interest will be payable at the time of closing of loan.one more thing this is not a personal loan I deposited my gold for loan for which they cut higher processing fees and also interest of that processing fees for that month.I got the cheque book to withdraw the loan amount after 20 days but they dont support or behave properly to solve my requirement which they have told within 3-7 days you will able to operate.I have to wait for 20 days for my money which they putted in buying gold for there target.Does the bank will pay me yhe intrest for that.I have given 4 months interest just for a safe side, but due to some problem not able to pay the interest of last 4 month(as they told no interest required to pay) they called me and without any written notice and anything says that pay within a day or we will forward it for auction.I request them to give me some time and is there any letter or list of customers who are asked for such thing. They said yes but we dont show you,we will not give you time directly send it for auction and the manager said I have a buyer ,he will take immediately but the price he says is 25,400 per 10 gram which they sold me in 29,000 approx-9 month before(27500 that day rate approx). The manager and staffs planed to take some profit by fearing me.they harass me full day for that………….any how I adjust from some where and manage.2nd issue-my son opened a current account to operate business,he requir higher cash deposits without charges ,he paid 43000 approx charges in a month and closed the account disheartedly which the manager and the marketing staffs say s it’s a mistake from our side to don’t have the proper knowledge of the account you required-we will get back your charged ammount-waited for 2 month nothing happened .we are being a good customer all time we have 5 saving accounts and 3 cuttent accounts and promoted several accounts,we done high transactions, purchased gold ,taken loan alwayes supported bank staffs for there target for a friendly jesture and now we are forced to close all the relations with the bank and will definitely look to withdraw maximum accounts with the bank promoted by us and others .we have been cheated all the time false commitment ,maximum staffs don’t know about their loan ,account and other products most of all how to behave with customers.I will definitely go for a legal action.

For example, lets say you have a gram of weed in your glove box, cop finds it, & you say you had no idea it was there. All the cop will do is take it from you & let you go on your merry way. He won’t give you any possession charges.

Thank you!!

Apparently, people like this can get away with fraud because of jurisdiction. The FBI has the only federal jurisdiction for fraud across states and they don’t have time for such small monetary crimes. The authorities said to start a blog and keep a list of victims to submit to the FBI.

I am thinking about running a website for extra money. I am currently jobless and need some money. I researched opportunities to make money online and came across ad networks, and how much much you can make selling space on your website for banners. How much to ad networks initially charge you? I know they take a certain percentage out of the money you make selling the ad space.

  104. Monique Spalding says:

Thank you!!

There are so, so many web designers out there that a generic search for “web designer” gives a million results. Would you use a different phrase, like “i need a website built” or would you maybe narrow down the results by adding more keywords, like “web designer miami”?

Also, do you care whether or not your web designer works in your area or are you content with long distance?

I responded to an ad for a part-time web designer and they are now asking me for a quote.

It turns out the job to start is making very simple changes to their existing website-adding a couple of lines here and there, etc. Things like this, they say, will help them build a relationship with a designer and eventually lead to an overhaul of the site.

Is this even worth my time? At the very least I would be charging them a minimum fee because, who wants to go through any hassle at all for, say, 40 bucks?

I am thinking about pursuing a career in web design. I learned there was a huge difference in web design and web development. I’ve studied the design aspect for a while now and I really want to know what is essential to be a successful freelance web designer. So far, I’m comfortable with HTML/CSS, Photoshop, and a tiny bit of Flash…is it necessary to know PHP and other coding languages in order to build a website? And while I’m at it, what is the difference between HTML and other languages?

I have a project pending. My first solo project. Problem is I’ve had my first meeting with client all went well and I didn’t give him any quote at all. But I said I’d research what was necessary to do the job and get back to him in two days

Problem is I have no idea what the going rate is and as most web design companies seem to be rather shy offering online price list breakdowns then I have no idea how to get a fair figure as a quote.

By the way I am an individual and not fully qualified web designer. I think my pages are competitive but certainly not the highest (corporate) quality sites but try to make them look as ‘clean’ as possible and take pride in what I do.

Really need your help guys. Beginning to panic don’t want to loose this deal as I have so many times before.

    PLEASE HELP: DEADLINE tomorrow

I know its due the work load, but averagley how long it takes for a web designer to complete the work without rush (standard) time?

One week to weeks for regular not so complex website, is this normal, or too late?

One month for a complex website that got database plans, etc. Is this normal?
I mean the usual period that freelancer & small designing companies take

I will be starting a freelancing business as a web designer, and I don’t know how much to charge for creating an entire website. A friend wants me to create a website for them from scratch. What is the typical price to charge someone to create a website that is about 4-5 pages? Where can I find a pay rates chart for specific web designing tasks such as adding a page to a website or creating templates if a client wants me to do small jobs like that?

I just want to know the average base rate a web designer can charge me if I wanted them to design a web page for my business? From the least to the most expensive with no particular format in mind.

Celebrating a special occassion, dressy casual to dressy, Non-Asian food (we eat that too often), Center city preferred but not required (West of Philly is better than East), $25.00 – $35.00 entree price range is OK and I’m willing to spend a little more if necessary. A unique theme and/or unusual menu would be nice but a warm, quiet atmosphere for a comfortable table conversation is more important – though it would be nice to have both. Short time frame for reservations for 4 (Sat. 11/04/06). Liquor license or BYOB – either is OK. We are true diners so we don’t like to feel rushed. Live music (Jazz or piano player) would be the icing on the cake! Thank you in advance for your input and suggestions.

My friends are having a barbeque this weekend that will symbolize the end-of-summer/start-of-fall… and they’re going all out with it. No one is in charge of bringing anything; they are taking care of everything, but I am obviously going to bring something like cookies or some other dessert.

What else can I bring, to keep things fun? I hear they’re having a slip n slide, whiffle ball, bocce, horseshoes, and those kind of outdoor activities, so I don’t want to get something like that… but what’s something cool and fun that I can bring that will be fun for everyone and especially fun later when everyone’s drunk and having a good time?
