What I want to do is to take a second and explain why I’ve chosen to leave the web design industry. To start with I’ve been doing search engine optimization for Geeks on Steroids for the last 10 years. So search engine optimization is nothing new for me.
I never felt like I had the ability to come up with a design idea from scratch. However, after doing this for the last 10 years I developed the ability to do just that. And I got pretty good at it.
When doing web design work you either need a staff or you yourself need to keep up with programming, latest trends in conversion, titles, headers and sales copy. Luckily for me I had a staff, because I’ve got just enough experience in all of the above to be dangerous. So when I started losing staff and decided not to hire back it didn’t take long to realize that designing websites was not what I wanted to do for a living.
And add in the fact that I’ve designed website for people, delivered them on time and on budget, and more than once the client stole the site and never paid me.
And let’s not forget the problems you can run into with software and programming. Programming languages are always being updated and these updates can cause software to stop working. And not matter what agreement you’ve got with your client 90% of the time they want the problem fixed at no charge.
